We were asked to form groups and design a 6-square-meter garden in the plant design studio. As to the topic selection phase, after we noticed that one team member always suffered from depression, we decided to call on more people to pay attention to them by demonstrating their inner world in the form of a garden.
OVERVIEW
PROCESS
We interviewed this classmate and even knew more about his inner world by his paintings. From all these information, we extracted four key words about his feelings, which are depressed, hopeless, angry and weak.
Design
EMPATHY MAP
Then we managed to use plants to demonstrate his feelings by choosing different plants. We took sizes, shapes, colors and textures into consideration in order to select right plants.
PLANT SELECTION
This picture shows the effect of plant growth changes throughout the year. Our species selection not only matched our design theme, but also guaranteed our garden’s outcome under different seasons.
PLANT SEASONAL CHART
After the plant selection, we started to draw the plan in order to make the arrangement a harmonious and balanced one. This process also helped us estimate number of plants to be purchased.
ITERATION
The design was done! Thus we went to the wholesale plant market to get the plants we want and then we transported them to our campus by car. With all members’ efforts, we finally turned our design into a real garden.
